12:30 Arrive at Nong Khiaw where we will visit the famous wartime limestone cave of Tam Pha Thok.
13:00 Enjoy your packed lunch along a stream near the cave-site amidst the fresh mountain air.
15:00 Travel up the very picturesque Nam Ou River by longtail-boat one hour northeast to Moung Ngoi, an idyllic Lao rivertown. This is one of Laos’ most scenic destinations.
17:30 Check-in at a guesthouse or bungalow. Then take a short walk exploring around this old village before sunset. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2

08:00 Breakfast
09:00 Start trekking to Ban Na (ethnic ‘Khamu’ and ‘Lao Loum’ villages) who came from Sip-song Ban-na (meaning literally ‘12 villages’). Inhabitants of the Kingdom of Sipsong Banna which entailed present day southern China, parts of Laos, Burma, and Thailand over 500 years ago stopped on their way to visit Tham Kang Cave. During the American War, this cave served as refuge to many villages trying to escape the intense bombing. We will be trekking under the rain forest and passing terraced rice fields and water buffalo on the way to Ban Na. There are other ethnic villages further out beyond Ban Na that we will visit.
12:30 Relaxe with ‘free’ or open-time after lunch to explore on your own. There is a small stream just outside of Ban Na Village.
15:00 Arrive at Ban Bo, a ‘Khamu’ village along another stream, where you will learn more about their culture and life-style. You can do a ‘homestay’ with a family or stay at the local guesthouse. Dinner is a simple Lao village meal.

Day 3

08:00 After breakfast and prepare things. we return to Moung Ngoi “Lunch at there” then go down Nam Ou stream by local fishing boat and trek approximately one hour to a Hmong village near the Nam Ou where we will overnight at a homestay with a Hmong family. You will learn more about Hmong culture, their society and activities. There will be ample time to explore this area on your own.

Day 4

08:00 After preparing your things and saying, ‘shi gee dua’ (meaning ‘good-bye) to your host family we take a motor boat downstream on the Nam Ou, passing Moung Ngoi on the way back to Nong Khiaw. A local lunch will be served at a riverside village en route to Luang Prabang.
